Thursday Morning

An update on the projected storm in Montana... it didn't happen.

We were told there was a weather watch in effect for northern Montana - up to 10 centimetes of snow with high winds. Fortunately, we dodged the bullet, and had favourable winds, but dang, it was cold.

Team 1 - who started the ride yesterday - had 12 hours off in between their first two rides to get a couple of hundred kilometres up the road, find a place to sleep then be on the road last night at midnight. I spoke with Mike Eby in the ambulance this morning, and he said they had a very strong ride. Team 2 is on the road right now and will be arriving here in Havre in about an hour.

As I look ahead to the weather where we will be in the next couple of days, I see nothing but rain. I really hope our luck holds out.

Don, lets hope the weather holds! Could you post who is on which team? Would be nice to know who's who in the zoo!

The winter storm watch appears to be just to the west of where you will be traveling and is for higher elevations. With any luck it will stay that way. Hopefully you won't see a lot of rain from this system either.

Good news...the winter storm watch has been removed! There's still rain in the forecast though.

Team 5 here (Patti, Bobbi, Maurice, Warren, Chris E. and Norbert), reporting as we travel through Great Falls on our way to next transition point at midnight. What's all this talk about snow, rain and such? It was plenty cold last night with that headwind!! Great Falls was a good stop to pick up bike stuff, food and beer, er we meant "recovery fluids". Found one amber brand called "Fat Tire".

On the way here, we visited an elementary school in the little town of Dutton where the kids had a HUGE number of questions and appreciated the tattoos. The superintendant even donated US$20 as we left so we're now up to $25 in two days. What a great experience visiting with those kids!

BY the way, Kate, your mom says she loves you too!!

One more 'mental toughness' ride (cold/night) to get through before we can enjoy riding in daylight and warmer weather. We're have a BLAST!!

Hi mom and other team 4 members. Is it snowing? It is snowing at Cochrane and football pratice was cut short tonight. How many more days to get to Texas? Watch for snakes in the hotter States. When you get to Texas I hope you get to a computer to see our letters on the computer. Also watch out for rabbits on the night rides.

Hey Bobbi, and the rest of T5, got a big ride tonight so have some fun, play a little name that tune. Bobbi generally sucks at it but sometimes she'll surprise ya with an obscure one.
By the way Bobbi, all's well at home. I'm into a good routine for homework, or as I like to call it "work de home". As for me, well it 's all good strange though I've started smoking to relieve some stress. You'll be happy to know the kids will be fluent in all three languages when you get home...English, French and Fowl.
Ride safe gang....If it's windy let the Jim Stick take the front.

They are making great time this year. Without the wind the first day that made a big difference. The last two year that I was with the group we always had wind.Maybe it was me so Don could get me to say ('It's blowing like a Bastard") Thanks again for keeping us all informed Don.

Hi Bobbi, We hope all is going well with your ride and "refueling", I think thats what you referred to it as. We are so proud of you! We will be praying for nice weather and lots of flats(road), not beer for you and your team!
