Monday - Day 6

3:00am

So this is the life! Marilyn and I are following team 1 as they move south along 385, just past Burlington, Colorado. It has been nothing but good roads and good weather since I last posted Sunday at 10am.

We passed through Wyoming at great speed after a night of terrible weather for team 3. The high winds and cold rain/sleet that dogged Team 2 until midnight just got worse. Paramedic Mike Eby said there were times he could hardly see Team 3 in front of him because of the sleet, and that in the three years he’s been doing this, it was the worst riding weather ever.

But hopefully, that’s behind us. We lost some time with the wind and rain, but started making it up on a glorious Sunday of riding. Team 4 had a strong ride and gained some ground. Team 5 was on the road when we caught up with the Peloton around 1:30 pm. They had already put 50k on their speedometers. By the time they finished at 6, they were over 150. Team 1 then put up similar numbers, enjoying favourable winds and cool but not cold riding conditions. Team 2 is on the road now and I think after everyone’s experience with the cold wet weather, that spirits will be high as we make our way through the states of Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas.

BOBBI!! you gotta see this! We have this big white box in the kitchen that you can put stuff in, like plates and glasses and cups and stuff and it will wash them!! This is so cool.... when did we get this thing? Did you know about it? You just put the stuff in and turn it on and it will dry them too.

I can't believe you guys are down to 2 final rides. Here I thought things were going to be really hard at home, what with me and the two kids and all....yeah know there were three when you left but I'm still trying to figure this one out. It's all good.

Looking so forward to seeing you and hearing the stories from all. I am a tad concerned to see Norbert. As a kid I loved to watch Sindbad but was really really scared of the Cyclops. I hope he's feeling better by then or it might drum up a lot of bad childhood memories.
Anyhow, better go the kids want some breakfast which ironically is the same breakfast that Anuk has been eating, They love it with yogurt too!!
Love ya,

ps. We can't get back in the house and it's cold and rainy do you know where the keys are? I don't think we can endure another night in the yard.

Just noticed a previous post from the SWITZERS.

Well SWITZERS if your reading this, I'll have an "extra large 2 cream". Oh and have either of you seen my third kid anywhere?
Thanks

Hi Chad,

Looked forward to see who you had a bet with this time!

Have a good ride and be nice with your teammates: you can't be at the head of the peloton without blocking any wind!

Say hi to Fred & Gloria.

Hey Friddle....miss you!!! Looks as though you are getting fairly good weather, although I am not sure what team you are on. The stick keeps saying Team 5, but the directory says Team 4!!! You guys are doing amazing, I can't believe how far you have gone already, putting Lance to same. Have fun, keep yours on the road, and it sounds as though the stick has things in control...good god!!! Anyways we love, off to Kona soon, will take the stick with us, wish we could take the Bob as well...It's all good, no worries Bob, bring it on and bring it home!! Love you lots....The Fartman Team

Team #2 Here Writing From Texas.
We just finished our night ride in Colorado - another frosty night but the clear skies show promise for the remaining days ahead.

Four 6 hour rides and the 3 hour Alberta Prologue and I've yet to go without jackets, arm and leg warmers and booties. Riding in the Texas heat tomorrow will be a shock to the system.

Have I mentioned the high regard in which I hold for Chad and Ian. These guys are the poster boys for what a warrior is. To come through what they endured in their cancer experience yet remain so upbeat and unfazed by any hardship is remarkable. I am blessed to be able to share the CTAPP journey with them.

Missing my family on Thanksgiving, Perhaps we can find a place that serves biscuits and "Turkey" gravy.

Brian

It has been great following Don's blog and all the additional reports; it is so much easier being a rider than a supporter, as a rider you are engaged every day (and nght), while those at home are relegated to the occasional cell phone call and following the always enjoyable blogs. Texas beckons and the good weather, ride strong, ride safe, best of luck to team 4 and all the teams,

All of you are truly remarkable & we can't wait to accompany the Warriors on our early Friday morning flight - there are alot of excited people ready to go!

Team 2 we are so proud of you - now enjoy the warm weather! You deserve it! RIDE TEAM 2 RIDE!

Brian, we love you! You continue to amaze us with your passion & insight for Cancervive. You have really made a difference! To think all of this started with you meeting Lance Armstrong four years ago, as you began your first round of chemo!

Meet you in Austin!

Love,
Maureen & Evan

Hi Bobbi and team 5, you guys are cruisin', that is amazing. Bobbi I heard about your little spill, I can't believe that you still have problems getting those shoes off those pedals. Do you remember when you first got those "special bike shoes"? I do we lived together in Calgary 20 years or so ago and you went for a ride came home all embarrassed because you came to a red light and you couldn't get your shoes off those pedals and you tipped over. Man I am sure glad I just stuck to runners and normal pedals. I still love ya and boy I am proud to call you my sister!! Oh one more thing I do apologize for moving to NB, I should have waited and stayed to take care of those babies of yours man Jim stick sounds like he has come UNGLUED!!!!

Love you keep up the good work.

Chad here from Team 2! (better known now as Arthur's Angels)...

We completed another cold, cold night of riding on our 12am - 6am shift from just south of Wray, Co to south of Burlington, Co. We may have come out of that ride a little more weathered and hardened but after a crueling 7+hr drive we have just entered TEXAS!!!

We will be the first team to ride and watch the sun come up over Texas tomorrow at 6am. We are all looking forward to finally putting away some of the extra clothing and maybe for once just riding in our cycling shorts. I know we could all go for a warm breeze across our faces and bare legs.

We had a moment to take in a few photo opportunties with the school children in Campo (Campo Warriors is the local school)and then again with the local girls in Amardillo.

Well, off to soak the legs quickly, stretch a bit and off to bed. 4:00 am will come early.

Bye for now from Chad and Team #2.
